Areas and walking clearances are approximate on a 5 cm sampling grid. Bench surface area uses exact dimensions. Storage is 75% of gross cabinet volume, an estimate before dividers / roll packing. Accessible socket counts are geometric estimates, assuming clear under-table access. Green means the selected planning allowances fit, not that a physical installation has been verified.

About the studio

A narrow, 50.8-square-foot room is being converted into a single-person leatherworking studio. The challenge is to fit an industrial sewing machine, a workbench, leather storage, and usable access into the actual space.

Built with Codex

Room photos and tape-measure dimensions became the starting point for a Three.js model. Codex helped implement editable equipment, layout comparisons, clearance checks, electrical markers, lighting previews, local saves, and the public-demo interface.

The planner

Compare four arrangements; move and resize furniture; inspect measurements; place proposed sockets; and preview task lighting. Layout D intentionally shows conflicts instead of pretending everything fits.

Planning estimates

The room dimensions are measured. Equipment models, cabinet details, lighting, operating allowances, and storage capacity are planning estimates. This is not factory CAD, a photometric calculation, or an electrical installation design.

Controls

Compare arrangements
Start with the studio’s current arrangement, or choose layouts A–D in the planning panel. Compare shows all four alternatives; D demonstrates an unsuitable expansion.
Orbit, pan, zoom
Drag empty space to orbit. Right-drag to pan. Scroll to zoom. On a touch screen, start gestures on empty space: one finger orbits, two fingers pan or zoom.
Move and edit
Drag equipment in 3D or Floor plan. Select a piece to edit dimensions, height and rotation. With the scene focused, R rotates by 90°; arrows nudge the selected piece; Shift nudges 10 cm.
Walk inside
Choose Walk. Use W/A/S/D to move and arrow keys to turn, or hold the on-screen movement buttons. Drag empty space to look. Furniture blocks movement.
Recover the view
Reset view restores the current camera and zoom. Floor plan is the easiest view for precise placement. Toggle the planning panel for more room.
Electrical and measurements
Open those panel sections for mounting heights, unit display, dimension overlays and clearance estimates. Socket positions are proposals, not wiring instructions.
Keep your work
Use named local saves, or export JSON for a portable copy. Hiding a future skiver keeps its reserved space. Remove a piece to release it.
